The hypothalamus is the part of the brain (located in the center of your head) that allows you to go into the restful, hypnotic state of mind. This section of the brain also controls body weight and appetite. (During the Thimage audio sessions, we tap into the hypothalamus!)
The main function of the hypothalamus is homeostasis, or maintaining the body's status quo. Body weight, blood pressure, body temperature, fluid and electrolyte balance are held to a precise value called the "set-point." To achieve this, the hypothalamus receives information from the psyche, organs and systems (including the five senses) about the state of your body. The hypothalamus is then able to initiate changes. Besides the above factors of the body, the hypothalamus also affects your metabolism, hormone regulation, mood and behavior, thirst, hunger and energy levels. The hypothalamus could be considered the control panel of the body. Hypnosis provides access into this control room and hypnotherapy puts you in charge of the control panel.
Laurie Gregg explains, "Hypnosis is a relaxed and focused state of mind. You go into a natural state of hypnosis when you become involved in an interesting novel or movie." She explains further, "Hypnosis is the state of mind you enter just before you fall asleep each night. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis and psychology to tap into your motivation, your resistances and your blocks so that you can produce a particular outcome or desired change."
Thimage is an effective weight loss tool because it takes place at the subconscious level. It is known that all desired changes in your life must take place at this subconscious level to have a lasting effect.
